Ancient History
“Armed with a BS in Art Education from Indiana University of PA, I figured out quickly that being an art teacher was not going to be a life long career. I found myself at Gimbels department store working in the Visual Merchandising department, designing signage and silkscreening graphics for all of the seven stores.
After moving to the Bay Area of California (following my wife Beth to the west coast), I managed an art store and worked in a print shop. I enrolled in the Graphic Design program at California College of the Arts and graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design.
This led to a variety of positions, first at NeXT Computer working for Steve Jobs, then on to Esprit, a clothing company in San Francisco. CKS was the next stop where I worked on a wide variety of branding projects, including United Airlines redesign, NCL and Apple. While at CKS, I rose to the position of Creative Lead in the Interactive department, winning awards for work on the in-store demos of the Macintosh Power Mac line for Apple.
Following a life long dream to own a business, I partnered with Bob Slote and fellow CKS employee Mark Comiso. After Bob departed, Mark and I formed Maus Haus Inc. Five years later the company joined Mixed Media, lead by Malcolm Guthrie. Maus Haus enjoyed much success in its 12 years, serving clients such as Cisco, Sprint, Intel, Stanford, Disney, Santa Clara University, Mills College, Safeway and Robert Mondavi.
After the partners agreed to close Maus Haus, I decided to continue working with some of these clients and develop new relationships. Donoughe Design is small, but offers me the opportunity to work closely with clients and take on the type of projects that offer interesting creative opportunities.”
